Maud Humphrey
MAUD HUMPHREY
The Bride's Book, c. 1900
Size approx. 8-1/4" by 10-3/4"
These four charmingly sentimental chromolithographs of brides in various
dress are illustrations by Maud Humphrey (mother of Humphrey Bogart)
which were published by Frederick A. Stokes Company, New York, in 1900.
It was entitled "The Bride's Book, A Souvenir of the Wedding" and also
contained color illustrations by Paul de Longpre. Each print measures
approximately 8-l/4" by 10-3/4". They are on heavy paper, with no text on
the reverse side. One edge may be very uneven where it was detached
from the book; but the margins are generous, and this will not affect
framing.
Maud Humphrey, who has a following of avid collectors for her children's
books and calendars, also did commercial art for Mellins Baby Food and
others. Other well-known books include Maud Humphrey's Mother Goose,
published New York and London, 1891, and Baby's Record, with up to twelve
large chromolithograph color illustrations, also published by Stokes, New
York, in 1898.
