Bradbury Seaweeds
The Nature-Printed British Sea-Weeds
Bradbury, 1859
Size approximately 6" by 9"
NEW! JUNE 2007
THE NATURE-PRINTED BRITISH SEA-WEEDS: A HISTORY, accompanied
by figures and dissections, of the Algae of the British Isles, by William Grosart
Johnston, F. B. S. E., and Alexander Croall, A. B. S. E., published London, 1859-60
in four volumes by Bradbury and Evans, 11 Bouverie Street. This selection is from
Volumes II, III, and IV, 1859-1860. The plates were "nature-printed" by Henry
Bradbury using a process which leaves a three-dimensional feel on the paper!. Some
minor occasional foxing is characteristic of this series, although most of the plates
are still very clean and white. A very few plates with very large images also possess a
very minimal margin between the image and the edge of the right margin because of
close binding. Each plate also bears its title and plate number. Each print will be
accompanied by the original text and a photocopy of the title page, unless otherwise
noted.
Bradbury also published a series of nature-printed ferns.
